| Bio: | This journal is for my penname Zapenstap, which I've used primarily for fandom interests. I've been around since the summer of 2000. This is where I will feel completely guiltless posting fanfiction, linking to fanart, writing crazy analytical essays, making icons, possibly republishing various website articles for websites I used to run, and various other pursuits. I welcome anybody to friend me if there are people out there who want to keep updated on whatever I'm writing. I love making new friends! ^^ I classify myself as a writer. I have since the 2nd grade. Sometimes my writing is hobbyist and other times I'm pretty serious about it. I'm proud of my work and I put a lot of time and effort into it, but I believe that writing is fundamentally a shared experience and love to have dicussions. I don't think of my writing as "journaling" though. I write for other people. As such, feedback is always welcome. FANFICTION: I currently write multichapter fanfiction, one shots, and essays. My aim is usually to write in-character fanfiction, often geared toward drama, angst, romance, or character analysis, though I also do comedy and have written other things. FANDOMS: I've written mostly for Gundam Wing, but I also write for Naruto, Fruits Basket, Princess Tutu and Harry Potter. I'm also into Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist, Cowboy Bebop, Card Captor Sakura and other stuff, but I haven't written fanfic for them. SHIPS: I tend to ship het, and usually toward the "most canon" pairings. I think deeply about character and about character relationships, and it tends to be relationships between characters that inspires me to write fanfiction. However, I don't classify all relationships as romantic, all romance as sexual, or all sexual relationships as affectionate. Because I think deeply about chemistry and compatibility I don't ship a pairing unless I really "feel" it. I can write about people getting together for other reasons, but if it's love, I have to really believe in its compatibility on a deep level. For that reason, if I'm really interested in a character's romantic development, I sometimes create original characters to pair them with. I also like writing original characters simply because I like to create characters. I will think about a character for months, sometimes years, before writing anything about them. I do not think writing original characters is easy, and it's especially hard to integrate an original character into established fandom. CHARACTER FAVS: I tend to like to write from the POV (point of view) of intellectual or analytical characters, not the nerdy "glasses" sort, but the complex, deep thinkers. This is partly because I identify more with these character types and it feels more natural to integrate my writing voice with their voice. However, these are not always my favorite characters and they are not always the only characters I write about or whose brain I try to infiltrate. ORIGINAL WRITING: I write original work outside of fandom. I'm mostly pursuing the genre of fantasy right now, or stories with a fantasy element. I like well-written work with well-rounded characters, interesting conflict, originality, humor, fun, romance (of course!), style, and meaning. I try to do all of that in my own work. I have discovered that world building is difficult, but I'm confident in my abilities and in my potential, and I keep working at it. COPYWRITING: I currently write professionally for a living. Someday I would like to be a novelist, but I have quite a few dreams, and not enough time to pursue them all as it turns out. WEBSITES: I own several websites that I can't update anymore. They may have disappeared (alas!) I love making content for websites, but they are a pain to maintain, especially on less than reliable servers. Websites I have owned include Gundam Wing Analysis, Princess Tutu Promotion, Yuki and Machi Fansite, an Akira site whose name I can't remember, and possibly some others. I can't access ANY of these sites anymore. I may end up reposting the content to this journal, though, and tagging it by category (or something).
